Trash truck crash in central Glasgow kills 6, injures 8

An out-of-control trash truck in the Scottish city of Glasgow has crashed into pedestrians killing at least six people and injuring eight others.

The Scotland Police described the Monday afternoon crash as a major but "not a terrorism-related incident," adding that there appeared to be no “sinister” intent behind the deadly accident.

"It is a road traffic collision with multiple fatalities. It is a terrible incident but we don't believe there is anything at this juncture that is sinister about the accident," said Scotland Police Superintendent Stewart Carle.

After raking pedestrians in central Glasgow, the City Council vehicle then crashed into the Millennium Hotel, near Queen Street station in George Square.

Police authorities further said the trash truck was travelling north on Queen Street, outside the Gallery of Modern Art, when "it was in a collision with a pedestrian."

It then continued north on Queen Street, jumped over the pavement and struck more pedestrians, before crashing into the Millennium Hotel at George Square, which is the scene of Glasgow's annual Christmas festival.

A major probe into the accident is currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.
